Service Tip

Nozzle Rust:

Occasionally during an inspection rust may be noted as originating from a nozzle. Often it may be a pipe or valve upstream. A spark test may not provide the location of the damage. The source of this rust can be difficult to determine. 

 
Rust originating in baffle nozzle

As can be seen in the photo above the rust rail exits the nozzle at the top.  Failure to locate the origin of the rust can lead to catastrophic failure.

In the vessel above the baffle was lowered to locate the damage. First noticed was the damaged packing support ring and the corroded packing gland below it.

Left unchecked additional damage would spread to the baffle as it vibrates in the packing gland. Catastophic damage is assured if the baffle breaks.

Product Improvement:

Glasslined Baffle Support/Packing Gland

Carbon steel packing support/packing glands can succumb to excessive corrosion quickly in low PH processing applications.

 
Glasslined Packing Support Plate

The Glasslined Packing Support plate is fabricated with carbon steel then coated with 45 mils thickness of Duraglass.

 
Teflon Packing Support

The Teflon packing support plate is fabricated with 25% glass filled teflon. The extra thickness provided support for baffle packing. We recommend this type packing support when standard glasslined supports fail consistently.

Glasslined packing gland

In repsonse to an industry wide problem of failed baffle support/packing glands we started a program to apply Duraglass to this item. The result is a stuffing box that is much more resistant to corrosive process fumes.

All our glasslined pieces are spark tested at 15,000 volts. The glass thickness is mapped prior to shipment.

2000 Gallon Reglassed RA series Reactor body

Reglassed unused reactor rated 100psi @ 450F internal and 90psi @ 450F Jacket. Vessel has standard nozzle configuration of: (2), 8", (2), 6"; (3), 4"; (1), 30" access opening; (1), 4" bottom outlet per ANSI standards. New jacket installed during reglass. ThaleTec
reglassed this vessel per the exacting standards of the German DIN. All flanges are with 3 mm of flatness. The vessel was orginally built by Pfaudler in Rochester NY. This vessel is interchangeable with all Pfaudler and Dedietrich 2000 gallon  RA/SA series reactors.

This vessel can be assembled as a complete recator with your choice of drive systems and agitation.

Warranty is 24 months in service 30 months from date of delivery.
